Meta plans new ‘Dookie Pookie’ comedy AI agent to target Gen Z, sources say
May 29 (Circuit News) - Meta Platforms is developing an advanced AI comedy agent named Dookie Pookie, designed specifically to appeal to Gen Z users through humorous, personality-driven interactions on its social platforms, according to people familiar with the project.
The new agent is being built as a native social media role within Instagram and Facebook, functioning as a witty, always-on comedy companion that generates personalized jokes, memes, roasts, and interactive skits in real time. Meta hopes the tool will help regain ground with younger users who have been drifting toward more entertaining and chaotic platforms.
Powered by a fine-tuned version of Meta’s Llama models, Dookie Pookie acts as an agentic comedy sidekick. It analyzes a user’s recent posts, interests, and current trends to create authentic Gen Z-style humor — heavy on irony, self-deprecation, and viral slang.
A typical use case described by insiders: A user shares a story about a bad day at work. Dookie Pookie immediately responds with a short, shareable comedy clip featuring animated versions of the user’s photos, turning the situation into an over-the-top sitcom scene complete with trending audio, captions, and a call-to-action for friends to join the roast. The agent can also jump into group chats to drop timely jokes or create collaborative comedy challenges.
Meta is treating Dookie Pookie as a dedicated “social media role” rather than a general-purpose assistant, aiming to increase daily engagement time and make the platforms feel more fun and alive for Gen Z.
The project remains in early testing with a limited group of employees and creators. A beta rollout to select U.S. Gen Z users is expected in the coming months, with a wider launch planned before the end of 2026, the sources said.
Meta declined to comment on the development.
The move reflects Meta’s continued heavy push into AI features as it seeks new ways to differentiate its apps and compete for younger audiences. The company has already introduced various AI chatbots and creative tools, but Dookie Pookie marks a more deliberate bet on entertainment and meme culture.
